Getting around Valencia by bike

Valencia is unusually kind to cyclists. The city sits on flat coastal plain, and its best-known cycling asset is the Jardí del Túria — roughly nine kilometres of gardens created in the former riverbed after the river was diverted following the 1957 flood. The park crosses the city from west to east and lets you ride from the Bioparc area to the City of Arts and Sciences almost without touching traffic.

Beyond the Turia, Valencia has been expanding its network of protected bike lanes across the centre and toward the beach neighbourhoods of Malvarrosa and El Cabanyal. The historic centre itself is largely calm, with many pedestrianised or low-traffic streets.

Practical notes: bikes are common and drivers are used to them, but the usual city caution applies at junctions. Valenbisi, the city's public bike-share, is aimed at residents and short trips; visitors staying several days can also rent from local shops. Summer midday heat is real — ride in the morning or late afternoon, and carry water.

If you are visiting as a group of five or more, a guided tour is the low-friction option: route, bikes, helmets and timing are handled for you.
